If you happened to find yourself at the Hawthorne Theater on Friday night, then you took part in a magically epic experience that will not soon be forgotten. For those of you who didn’t make it to the Album Release Party of local band Bi Polar Bear, you missed out! The party kicked off right with upbeat, dirty, and driving songs “Prey” and “Sub Zero“ . The dance floor was maxed to full capacity for the climax of “Get Some “as Haley and Simon dominated the rhythm section. “Hibernation” slightly lowered heart rates into mind expanding melodies brought in from Chase on the keys and Miles on guitar. The magic continued on with songs such as “24 hours of darkness,” “Far end of the Earth,” and “Omnivore.” Bi Polar Bear has come a long way within this past year, progressively evolving into a heavier sound though still incorporating the Jazz influence from which this band originally started out with. From Bi Polar Bear you can expect to hear melodic jazzy undertows in an all-around rock sound, with even bouts of heavy metal thrown into the mix. What keeps me coming back for more is the variety and energy that this band brings to the stage every time, and that they are constantly incorporating new and creative sounds with every show. Their ever growing fan base is just as varied, with followers from every crowd. Glaciers, their newest album is a definite hit in my book, so don’t miss out on their next show here in Portland at the Doug Fir lounge December 3rd.
